MOHAVE COUNTY ORDINANCE NO. 2017-01
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF MOHAVE COUNTY ARIZONA
AMENDING SECTION 1 LA.3(l) AMENDMENTS AND DELETIONS TO TECHNICIAL CODES,
THE INTERNATIONAL RESIDENTIAL CODE, OF MOHAVE COUNTY ORDINANCE NO. 2015-
04, AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE ADOPTION AND ENFORCEMENT OF
CONSTRUCTION AND RELATED CODES PROMULGATED BY NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED
ORGANIZATIONS, TO INCREASE THE SIZE OF RESIDENTIAL ACCESSORY STRUCTURES,
WITHOUT UTILITIES, ALLOWED WITHOUT A BUILDING PERMIT FROM 120 SQUARE FEET
TO 300 SQUARE FEET.
WHEREAS, at a regular meeting of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors held on May 1,
2017, a public hearing was conducted to determine whether approval should be granted to amend the
Mohave County Ordinance No. 2015-04, and
WHEREAS, on November 16, 2015, Mohave County commenced the process of changing the
methods used to grant agricultural exemptions under A.R.S. 11-8 12 and A.R.S. 11-865 , and during that
process, the County heard testimony that the size of accessory buildings allowed before building permits
were required was too restrictive, and
WHEREAS, after reviewing accessory buildings allowed in neighboring rural counties and
confirming that Mohave County was more restrictive than typical, and
WHEREAS,the Building Code Advisory Board, at their meeting on April 5, 2017, recommended
to the Board of Supervisors that Section I I.A.3(1) of Mohave County Ordinance No. 2015-04 amending
the Section R 105.2 Work exempt from permits in the International Residential Code be amended to reflect
that accessary structures 300 square feet or less that contain no utilities be exempt from building permits,
and,
WHEREAS, the proposed amendment was advertised in Today's News Herald, The Mohave
Valley Daily News, The Spectrum, and the Kingman Daily Miner, a publication of general circulation in
Mohave County on April 16, 2017.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT ORDAINED, that the Board of Supervisors, at their regular meeting
on May 1, 2017, APPROVED this Ordinance, as recommended by the Mohave County Building Code
Advisory Board, amending Section 11.A.3(1) of Mohave County Ordinance No. 2015-04 to read as
follows (words to be deleted are struck; words to be added are bolded and double underlined):
(1) Accessory Structures: Change from 200 square feet to 120 300 square feet. No utilities
allowed.
