RESOLUTION NO. 93-175
A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH THE DENIAL OF A ZONING USE PERMIT FOR
THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A PRIVATE AIRCRAFT LANDING STRIP, LOCATED IN
AN A-R/10A (AGRICULTURAL-RESIDENTIAL/TEN ACRE MINIMUM LOT SIZE)
ZONE, ON LOT 245, SUNWARD HO RANCHOS, SECTION 36, TOWNSHIP 23
NORTH, RANGE 17 WEST, LOCATED APPROXIMATELY ONE (1) MILE EAST OF
STOCKTON HILL ROAD AND NORTH OF JANE AVENUE, IN THE LONG MOUNTAIN
PORTION OF THE MORAVE COUNTY GENERAL AREA.
WHEREAS, at the special meeting of the Mohave County Board
of Supervisors held on June 21, 1993, a public hearing was
conducted to determine whether approval should be granted to John
D. McCoy of Escondida, CA, for a Zoning Use Permit for an
aircraft landing strip in an A-R/I0A (Agricultual Residential/Ten
..~" Acre Minimum Lot Size) zone, in the Long Mountain area, and

WHEREAS, Section 36 is located approximately four (4) miles
north of Jagerson Road and is bordered by Jeffery Avenue on the
north, Cherum Road on the east, Jane Avenue on the south and
Linger Street on the west. The property is accessed from
Stockton Hill Road via Jane Avenue east approximately three-
quarters (.75) mile to Parker street, thence north approximately
one-quarter (.25) mile to Ruthe Avenue, thence east approximately
one quarter (.25) mile to the northwest corner of the subject
property, and
WHEREAS, review of floodplain map #040058-2155B indicates
this parcel to be clear of a designated floodplain. The property
is currently vacant of and structures, however there are a number
of unlicensed automobiles and other open storage of a variety of
materials. Surrounding land uses consist primarily of vacant
land with a few scattered residents. The applicant desires to
obtain a Zoning Use Permit to have a private landing strip on the
property, and
WHEREAS, at the public hearing before the Mohave County
Planning and Zoning Commission on May 12, 1993, the Commission
recommended DENIAL of a Zoning Use Permit contingent upon the
following:
1. This Zoning Use Permit will constitute a change that is
not consistent with the surrounding residential
properties.

2. The landing strip traverses the property from corner to
corner in both directions, with limited space at the
beginning and end of the runway which may pose a public
heath, safety and welfare issue for the surrounding
properties.
3. Related aircraft uses, ie. fuel, repairs, storage, will
be inconsistent with the surrounding residential area.
4. The Mohave County Zoning Ordinance does not have a
provision for this type of use in an A-R zone.
WHEREAS, the notice of hearing was published in the Kingman
Standard, a newspaper of general circulation in Kingman, Mohave
County, Arizona, May 22, 1993, and posted May 21, 1993 as
required by Arizona Revised Statutes, and the Mohave County
Zoning Regulations.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors,
at their special meeting on Monday June 21, 1993, denied this
Zoning Use Permit as recommended by the Mohave County Planning
and Zoning Commission and outlined herein.
