RESOLUTION NO. 97-212 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEME:NT'S PERMITTING OF SHEEP GRAZING IN HUALAP AI VALLEY WHEREAS, the Bureau of Land Management permitted sheep grazing in the Hualapai Valley allowing grazing permittees to take advantage of ephemeral growth; and WHEREAS, it is a long-standing custom to take advantage of a flush of ephemeral growth; and WHEREAS, ephemerallice:nsing has a positive economic impact on grazing permittees and Mohave County, and is part of the Mohave County's rural culture; and WHEREAS, grazing reduce:s some undesirable plant types; and WHEREAS, as the county c:ontinues to experience growth and development, conflicts between grazing permittees and new residents will occur; and WHEREAS, concerns have been raised about the guard dogs accompanying sheep, and the close proximity of sheep, dogs and camps to resi.dential homes; and WHEREAS, the Bureau of Land Managem(:nt has been facilitating discussions between grazing permittt:es and private landowners affected by the grazing, and WHEREAS, the Mohave County Public Land Use Committee has written to the Bureau of Land Manage:ment supporting the permitting of ephemeral grazing with appropriate controls to reduce conflicts with private property owners, and WHEREAS, the Mohave County Public Land Use Committee at their meeting on May 20, 1997 recommended to the Board of Supervisors that the Board support the grazing permits and the continuation of the dialogue between grazing permittees and the private lando\\-ners. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors, at a special meeting on Monday, June 16, 1997, ,considered these items and concluded as follows: 1. The Mohave County Board of Supervisors supports the Bureau of Land Management's practice of licensing grazing during periods of ephemeral growth. 2. The Mohave County Board of Supervisors supports Bureau of Land Nlanagement's concept of an ongoing dialogue between the grazing permittees and affected private propelty owners. . . .
