A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE INCLUSION OF THE RED LAKE SUBSTATION
IN THE NAVAJO TRANSMISSION PROJECT
WHEREAS, the Dine Power Authority is proposing a transmission line through Mohave
County, and
WHEREAS, the Western Area Power Administration under the Department of Energy is
the lead Federal agency responsible: for developing the Environmental Impact Statement, and
WHEREAS, the Draft Environmental Impact Statement included an alternative southern
route and a substation at Red Lake; and
WHEREAS, the environmentally preferred alternative route in the Environmental Impact
Statement is a northern route that does not include the Red Lake Substation; and
WHEREAS, Mohave County's I~omments on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement
supported the southern route because of the economic benefit of the Red Lake Substation to
Mohave County; and
. WHEREAS, a substation at Red Lake would allow Mohave County to access the power
being wheeled by the Navajo Transmission Line; and
WHERl~AS, no other substations are proposed in Mohave County, increasing the
difficulty of accc:lssing the power; and
WHERI~AS, a substation at Red Lake could provide power for economic development
and community growth; and
WHERE:AS, the Mohave County Public Land Use Committee at their meeting on May
20, 1997 recommended to the Board of Supervisors that the Board adopt a resolution supporting
a substation at R,ed Lake and requesting tJlat the Western Area Power Administration consider
the economic impact of the Red Lake substation on Mohave County.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors, at a special
meeting on Monday, June 16, 1997, (:onsidered these items and concluded as follows:
1. The Mohave County Board of SupervJ!sors supports the inclusion of the Red Lake
substation in the Navl3:jo Transmission Project due to the potential economic
benefits to Mohave County.

2. The Mohave County Board of Supervisors request that the Western Area Power
Authority consider the Red Lake substation and its potential economic impact on
Mohave County in the Final Environmental Impact Study.
