RESOLUTION NO. 97- 293
A RESOl,UTION AUTHORIZING THE POSTING OF STOP SIGNS AT THE
INTERSECTION OF PIPE SPRINGS ROAD (MC RT #240) AND KAIBAB ROAD
(MC RT #1515) MOHAVE COUNTY, ARIZONA.
WHEREAS, the Board of Supe~rvisors of Mohave County met in regular session on
August 4, 1997;: and
WHEREAS, A.R.S. ~~ 28-627, .28-643 and 28-855 authorize local authorities to place
and maintain traffic control devices on streets and highways under their jurisdiction as
deemed necessary to regulate, warn or guide traffic; and
WHEREAS, a Traffic Safety Committee was established to review the warrants and
make recommendations to the Board of Supervisors for establishing traffic control devices
within Mohave County; and
WHEREAS, the Traffic Safety Committee has reviewed the circumstances
surrounding the warrants for posting traffic control devices on certain roads as presented
herein; and
WHEREAS, the Traffic Safety Committee has made its recommendation for the
posting of traffic control devices on sm:h roads,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEI> that the Department of Public Works is
hereby directed by the Board of Supervisors to place the following traffic control devices as
recommended by the attached engineering study dated July 02,1997 and by the Traffic Safety
Committee:
Post stop sign at the intersection of Pipe Springs Road and Kaibab Road stopping
traffic on Pipe Springs Road for traffic on Kaibab Road.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED on August 4, 1997.

KAIBAB, ARIZONA
LoeA TlON The intersection of Pipe Springs Road (MC Rt.. # 240) at Kaibab Road (Me Rt. #
ISIS) near the community of Kaibab wlthin the Kaibab Indian Reservation, in the Arizona Strip
Area.
Request for sign changes for this intersection originated from Carmen M. Bradley, Chairperson
for the Kaibab Band of Paiute Indians to Dick Skalicky, Acting County Manager, dated June 4,
1997 (See exhibit A).
DISCUSSION:
- Posted speed limit through intersection is 45mph.
- Pipe Springs Road is a through road but has a tight curve (approx. 630 ; see exhibit B)
that does not accommodate the posted speed.
- No apparent sight restriction is present at this intersection.
- No acc:ident history is available from MCSO. Accidents may have been
investigated by BIA and/or ADOT officers. Mohave County Engineering Dept.
personnel has seen at least two accidents at this location.
- Established right of way is 100'.
- Average Daily Traffic count is 575 (no factors have been applied) taken +/- 500' North
of Highway 389.
RECOMMENDA nON
Based on an engineering study completed July 02, ] 997, installation of stop and stop
ahead signs** are recommended at this location so as to stop Pipe Springs Road for Kaibab Road.
