RESOLUTION NO. 97-371 A RESOLUTION OF THE MOHA VE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN SUPPORT OF THE uFAMIL Y ,AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION" PROGRAM PROPOSAL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA COOPERATIVE EXTENSION WHEREAS, the Mohave Board of Supervisors is vitally concerned about the health and well-being of families and youth in Mohave County; and WHEREAS, statistics reveal, based on the 1994 Kids Count Fact Book, that in the County of Mohave 23.5% childnen live in poverty, that 26.3% of children live in families receiving food stamps, that 32.6% of children are enrolled in AHCCCS, 40.6% of children participate in school free or reduced lunch programs, 3,343 reported cases in which children were the victims of abuse, along with 199 reported homeless children; and WHEREAS, "Family and Community Connection" is a comunity-based program to equip families and youth to become self-sufficient contributing members of their community through: training in life skills, mentoring with peer support and community connection; and WHEREAS, the UFamily and Community Connection" program employs a multiplier effect whereby Extension professionals train community-based para- professionals and volunteers to teach families and youth life skills. Program participants will in turn provide support to other families and youth. Youth and family support networks will be formed through community in addressing the needs of families and youth; and WHEREAS, this program builds family self-sufficiency rather than dependency. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors offer their support of the UFamily and Community Connection" Program and recommends funding of the program by the Arizona Legislature. PASSED, ADOPTED AND APPROVED by the Mohave County Board of Supervisors on this 6th day of OCTOBER , 1997. . . .
