HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-152 I I I RESOLUTION 90-152 A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE KIDS VOTING VOTER EDUCATION PROGRAM AND ENCOURAGING ITS DEVELOPMENT IN MOHAVE COUNTY WHEREAS, voter turnout nationally has declined to a rate of 50.15% in 1988, and local elections in Arizona attract only 15- 20% of potential voters; a~d WHEREAS, the Kids Voting Voter Education Program has caused significant increases in voter turnout in participating precincts in Maricopa County; and WHEREAS, Mohave County has been asked to consider developing a Kids Voting Program in the County; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors supports the Kids Voting Program and encourages establishment of a Kids Voting Program in the Mohave County school system. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board accepts and encourages achievement of the stated goals of the program; 1.. 1'0 teach school age chi ldren the meaning of democracy and its corresponding responsibilities. 2. To stimulate political awareness among school-age children and their parents. 3. '1'0 increase the likelihood that today's children will vote when they become adults. 4.
