RESOLUTION NO. 95-345 ON THE SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT AND TRAINING PROGRAM WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Mohave County met in Regular Session this 7th day of August, 1995, and WHEREAS, the fiscal year 1995 rescission eliminates the 1996 Summer Youth Employment and Training Program (SYETP); and WHEREAS, this rescission will result in an estimated 615,000 (200 in Mohave County) young people being unemployed and without the chance to develop workplace skills each summer; and WHEREAS, the SYETP represents the only national employment program for 14 to 21 year olds who are uneducated, unskilled, and in need to educational enhancements; and WHEREAS, elimination of the SYETP will eradicate positive economic impacts and youth educational enhancements for 615,00 economically disadvantaged youths; and . WHEREAS, the economy cannot absorb these youths into private-sector jobs; and WHEREAS, the Department of Labor's Office ofInspector General has evaluated the STETP and found ti to be an effective mechanism to serve youth; and WHEREAS, the safety net currently in place for economically disadvantaged youth is being eroded; and WHEREAS, the national Association of Counties adopted a similar resolution on July 25, 1995: THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors opposes the elimination of the 1996 summer youth programs; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors urges Members of Congress to restore authority and appropriations for the 1996 SYETP. . .
