RESOLUTION NO. 96-172 RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ANDALEX SMOKY HOLLOW COAL MINE WHEREAS under a joint resolution of the Legislature of the State of Utah during the 1996 General session, they have expressed support for Andalex Resources' Development of Kaiparowits Coal Resources as being in the best interest of their State and the Utah School Trust; as the most important factor in maintaining the viability of the State's largest energy reserve. WHEREAS the proposed coal mining operation will be near Page and has a potential for contributing to the economic well-being of Northern Arizona. WHEREAS the company is looking for support from Mohave County for their project of hauling mine ore through Highway 398, at the rate of six trucks per hour, from Fredonia through the Kaibab Paiute reservation and Colorado City to a railhead in Moapa, Nevada. WHEREAS there will be a truck terminal and turnaround to service Andalex in Mohave County which will provide employment and a tax base to the County. WHEREAS the Mohave County Board of Supervisors express support for the responsible development of the Kaiparowits coal resource as now proposed by Andalex Resources as being in the highest long-term interest of the state of Utah, the Utah School Trust, and the Northern portion of Mohave County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors, at their regular meeting on Monday, May 6, 1996, give their support to the Andalex Resources' development of the Kaiparowits coal resources.
