AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 27.A, GENERAL PROVISIONS, OF THE MOHAVE
COUNTY ZONING ORDINANCE TO ACCOMMODATE GENERAL COMMERCIAL
DEVELOPMENT IN THE MINING COMMUNITIES OF OATMAN AND CHLORIDE
The Mohave County Zoning Ordinance is amended as follows (added language is bolded; deleted
language is st ):
Section 27.A.5 is added, to read:
5. General Commercial uses that are permitted without a Zoning Use Permit for the
older mining communities of Oatman and Chloride when the General Commercial
Uses will support tourist activities and are within established commercial areas.

RESOLUTION NO. 2001-277
A RESOLUTION SETTING FORTH ORDINANCE NO. 2001-06, ADOPTING AN
AMENDMENT TO SECTION 27.A, GENERAL PROVISIONS, OF THE MOHAVE COUNTY
ZONING ORDINANCE TO ACCOMMODATE GENERAL COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT
IN THE MINING COMMUNITIES OF OATMAN AND CHLORIDE.
WHEREAS, at the special meeting of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors held on August
20, 2001, a public hearing was conducted to consider whether an Amendment to Section 27.A, General
Provisions, of the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance to accommodate general commercial development
in the mining communities of Oatman And Chloride, and
WHEREAS, zoning in the older townships created to support mining in the County is limited to
residential uses, and
WHEREAS,this zoning fails to recognize the tourist attraction potential of these towns, and
WHEREAS, it appears that the original intent of Mohave County was to phase out commercial
development in these towns, and that this strategy is no longer appropriate, and
WHEREAS, Mohave County intends on encouraging economic development in these towns
through tourist attractions, and
WHEREAS, the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance does not contain a zone that supports the
type of commercial development sought by these communities while excluding other, less desirable
uses, and
WHEREAS, the development of a new zone will take several months and the cooperation of
both communities, so an interim method of providing relief is needed while the Planning and Zoning
Department and the communities develop a more appropriate, long-term solution, and
WHEREAS, at the public hearing before the Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission
on July 11, 2001, the Commission recommended APPROVAL for an Amendment to Section 27.A,
General Provisions, of the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance to accommodate general commercial
development in the mining communities of Oatman and Chloride, and

WHEREAS, the notice of hearing was published in The Standard, a newspaper of general
circulation in Kingman, Mohave County, Arizona, August 1, 2001, and posted on August 3, 2001, as
required by Arizona Revised Statutes and the Mohave County Zoning Regulations.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors, at their special
meeting on Monday, August 20, 2001, APPROVED Mohave County Ordinance No. 2001-06, an
Amendment to Section 27.A, General Provisions, of the Mohave County Zoning Ordinance to
accommodate general commercial development in the mining communities of Oatman and Chloride as
recommended by the Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission and outlined herein.
