A RESOLUTION AMENDING SECTION 31 OF THE MOHA VE COUNTY ZONING
REGULATIONS TO ALLOW SIGNS ON BUS/TRANSIT BENCHES AND SHELTERS
WHEREAS,at the regular meeting of the Mohave County Board of Supervisors held on October
7, 1996, a public hearing was conducted to determine whether approval should be granted to amend Section
31 of the Mohave County Zoning Regulations to allow for signs on Bus/Transit Benches and Shelters; and
WHEREAS, bus/transit providers are considering providing service to parts of Mohave County,
including unincorporated areas; and
WHEREAS,at their meeting on April 1, 1996, the Mohave County Board of Supervisors referred
to the Planning and Zoning Commission an amendment to Section 31 of the Mohave County Zoning
Regulations to allow bus/transit bench advertising; and
WHEREAS,section 3l.5.F.6 prohibits signs in or on a public street except as otherwise expressly
authorized by the zoning regulations; and
WHEREAS, the Mohave County Zoning Regulations do not expressly authorize the locating of
signs on bus/transit benches or shelters in a public right-of-way or easement; and
WHEREAS,the Mohave County Planning and Zoning Commission held a public hearing on this
amendment at their meeting on June 12, 1996, and recommended that the Board of Supervisors amend
Section 31 of the Mohave County Zoning Regulations by adding Subsection 31.10 to read as follows:
SECTION 31.10
Bus/Transit Si~ns
Signs on bus/transit benches or shelters shall be allowed in public rights-of-way and easements that are in
C-2, C-2H, CM, CM-O, M and MX 1IH zoning districts. Signs on bus/transit benches or shelters in C-l
and residential zones must obtain a Zoning Use Permit from the Board of Supervisors after receiving
a recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission. All signs on bus/transit benches or
shelters are subject to the following regulations:
A. Bus/transit signs shall be placed on benches and shelters for which a permit has been issued
by the Director of Public Works. Should the permit for a bench or shelter be revoked or
declared void, the sign must be removed.

B. Any signage on a bus/transit bench or shelter shall be limited to the name, address, phone
number, business logo and/or services offered by the business advertised.

C. The horizontal dimension of bench signs shall not extend beyond the actual seating
dimensions of the bench, but in no event to exceed eight (8) feet. The vertical dimension of
the sign shall commence at the seat of the bench, and shall extend no further than forty-four
(44) inches above the ground.
D. Shelter signs shall not exceed fifty percent (50%) coverage of any face or side on which they
are placed, shall not extend beyond or above the shelter, and shall not interfere or impede site
distances or the smooth, safe traffic flow.
E. The following types of signs shall be prohibited: illuminated signs, directional signs with
arrows, animated signs, and any sign prohibited by this Section.
WHEREAS, a notice announcing a public hearing before the Mohave County Board of Supervisors
on this amendment was published in The Standard, a newspaper of general circulation in Kingman, Mohave
County, Arizona, as required by Arizona Revised Statutes and the Mohave County Zoning Regulations, on
September 21, 1996, and posted on September 20, 1996, in more than 20 locations throughout Mohave
County;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mohave County Board of Supervisors amends
Section 31 of the Mohave County Zoning Regulations as recommended by the Mohave County Planning
and Zoning Commission.

Mohave County Zonirg Regulations be amended by adding Subsection 31.10 to read as follows:
