HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-097 RESOLUTION NO. 98-97 WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Mohave County met in Regular Session this 9th day of March, 1998, and WHEREAS, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Interior and Southern California Edison have agreed to conduct "Project Mohave" a scientific study designed to evaluate the potential contribution to haze in the Grand Canyon National Park by the Mohave Generating Station, and WHEREAS, the complete date of "Project Mohave" has been extended by the Environmental Protection Agency and the final conclusions of this scientific study are not yet available, and WHEREAS, as a political subdivision of the Grand Canyon State we are committed to protecting this symbol of our nation's natural grandeur, and WHEREAS, in anticipation of any proposed regulatory action, resulting in simultaneous impact on the economics of northwestern Arizona communities and the Navajo and Hopi Tribal economics must be considered in any decision making process related to the Mohave Generating Station. THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of Mohave County requests that any decision making process involving the Mohave Generating Station, include relevant representatives of northwestern Arizona Political subdivisions and the Navajo and Hopi Tribe and encourage the establishment of future meetings, to be held in such a location to insure the opportunity of those affected to attend without unnecessary hardship.
