WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors of Mohave County met in Regular
Session this 1st day of February, 1999, and
WHEREAS, U.S. Department of Energy, Nevada Operations Office,
regarding the transportation of radioactive waste to the Nevada Test Site is
considering an alternative route from the existing southern route, and
WHEREAS, the proposed route would place radioactive track traffic on 1-40
west of Kingman, to Barstow, California, then north on I- 15, then north on California
127 past Death Valley to U.S. 95 then south to the Nevada test site, and
WHEREAS, the alternative route would be a detour of 400 additional miles,
and
WHEREAS, Mohave County, in efforts to protect the citizens and its
environment has publically objected to any type of low level nuclear waste facilities
in the past,
THEREFORE, Mohave County desires to join its neighboring State and in
particular the City of Needles, in objecting to the proposal and urge the U.S.
Department of Energy to reconsider using the No Action Alternative.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 1s~ day of February, 1999.
