PURPOSE:
Mohave County takes pride in its workforce and is committed to providing a healthy work environment for all
employees. The purpose of this policy is to address employees who arrive or remain at work while exhibiting
signs of a contagious illness.
SCOPE:
This policy applies equally to all employees, provides general guidance and defines the responsibilities of both
management and the employee.
RESPONSIBILITY:
Department Heads, supervisors and division heads are responsible for implementing this policy to assure a
healthy and safe work place. These administrators have the authority to enforce this policy.
All employees are responsible for working cooperatively with their management in the application of this policy
in order to assure a healthy and safe work place.
The Human Resources Department is responsible for assisting the management staff in their decisions in
applying this policy.
POLICY:
1. No employee will be allowed to come to, or remain at their workplace if they are exhibiting signs of a
contagious illness, such as:
A. Fever;
B. Coughing;
C. Sneezing;
D. Vomiting.
2. Clearly each of the symptoms above can occur in an employee without that person having a contagious
illness and each supervisor must use their discretion and sound judgment in assessing each individual
situation.
3. Any employee that is believed to have a contagious illness must be sent home from the workplace.
4. An employee who refuses to leave the workplace after order of their supervisor shall be subject to
discipline, up to and including termination.

5. Any individual, who has been ordered to leave the workplace as provided by this policy, shall be required to
utilize accrued compensatory time, ElB and/or PTO for all, necessary time away from the workplace. An
individual ordered to leave the workplace who does not have any available leave shall be on unpaid status
until they return to work. Such unpaid status shall be in accordance with the provision of unpaid leave
contained in Administrative Procedure 11- 1.11.7.
6. Any individual ordered to leave the workplace will not be allowed to return to work until they have been
symptom free for a period of 24 hours. The individual may be required to provide a daily update on their
,medical status to their supervisor. Any employee ordered to leave the workplace who fails to keep their
supervisor informed of their medical status for a period of 3 consecutive days may be subject to the
provisions of Administrative Procedure 11- 1.11.8.
