HomeMy WebLinkAbout3-6E ° Administrative Procedures (3 -6) FIREARMS OR DEADLY WEAPONS PROHIBITED IN az COUNTY ADMINISTRATIVE COMPLEX ,561 Responsible Department: Administration Effective Date: March 1, 2010 Signed: Revision Date: Ron Walker, County Manager PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to provide a secure location where members of the public may place personal firearms of deadly weapons prior to entering any public building located at the County's Administrative Complex. SCOPE: These procedures apply to everybody, including without limitation the public, visitors, government officials, agents and employees, excepting law enforcement and county security officers. POLICY: 1. Firearms Check -In a. Pursuant to A.R.S. §13- 3102(A)(10) individuals are prohibited from entering a public building while in the possession of a firearm or deadly weapon. b. Prior to entering any building located at the County's Administrative Complex, individuals may check in their firearm or deadly weapon with the County's weapon storage facility. Those who choose not to check a firearm or weapon may leave such in their personal vehicle. The County will assume no liability for any losses incurred by that method. c. A county representative will assist in checking in the weapon for secure, short-term storage. The weapon owner must: 1) have valid federal, state or local government issued photo identification and must completely fill out a form that fully identifies the weapon, i.e., make, model, serial number, if applicable. After observing county representatives placement of the weapon inside the storage receptacle, the weapon owner will receive a receipt for the checked weapon. The county representative will close and secure the locker and retain the key until the weapon is retrieved by owner. d. The placement of weapons in the secure - storage facility, or storage by any other means, is at the risk of the owner and Mohave County shall not be liable in any event to any owner for any loss or damage of any kind or character resulting from storage of the weapon. 2. Firearms Check -out a. Upon request by weapon owner for the return of their firearm or deadly weapon and return of the receipt issued in accordance with section 1., c. above, the county representative will verify owner identification prior to return of the firearm or weapon. b. Upon return of the firearm the county representative will request the weapon owner to expeditiously exit the building. Page 1 of 1
